The Only Part of the Book that Matters is What’s on the Inside

Social media has played a huge role in society today. It is a place that as soon as something happens to you or to someone else. You are able to let the whole world know or at least all the people that follow you. Now the problem is that 97% of human thoughts are negative which means that 97% of what you see being posted on social media in some form is negative. A sports team loses a game everyone posts about how that team sucked. If a boxer losers a fight everyone makes memes with that person getting knocked out. If a celebrity falls or makes a funny face by the time they fix their facial expression the entire world is already making fun of them. They actually have a category on multiple entertainment shows that people vote for the worst dressed person at an awards show. When did it become encouraged to judge people on national television and criticize them for how they dressed? When people realized that you get more followers and likes when you’re making fun of people instead of being positive. Again since 97% of people thoughts are negative these post make sense to them. positive posts on the other hand are seen as being different and average people don’t like different.

"97% of people thoughts are negative."

Since social media has become so popular and on social media you are judged strictly on how you look. The first thing you see when browsing on social media is their profile picture which is a deciding factor of if you click on their profile. Once on their profile if you like what you see then you will follow them. That is why the people who have the most followers on Instagram are either celebrities, or people who 90% of their pictures are them half naked. Unfortunately we are in a world where the average person will judge someone on what they look like instead of what kind of person they are. The increase in the fitness industry is proof that this is true. There would be a decline in fitness memberships if social media was not such a big role today. Most people go to the gym so that they could either post a picture of them going to the gym, at the gym or as soon as they get home from the gym because they know the better you look the more followers you get. Now people are working out in hopes of fame, fortune and followers. The positive side of social media is people have started working out which leads to increased strength, increased mental strength, releasing endorphins, higher self-esteem and improved health all of which everyone should have. The negative side to this is it is just adding to the problem of judging people based off their looks not their personality. All which lead to bullying, being made fun of, eating disorders and low self-esteem.

"Since social media is so popular, you are judged strictly by how you look"

Go look at any fitness models page on Instagram and click on any of their half-naked selfies. The post will either be talking about how great they are, how no one believed in them and how everyone hates on them, all of which are negative. Negative attracts negative. Now if you look at their comments most people are “hating” on them and posting more negative comments. So something as positive as improving your health now turns to a negative thing and since 97% of people thoughts are negative this leads to more followers. Now I’m not talking about the few fitness icons on social media who really do post stuff about fitness because they know the benefits and they really want to help out others in improve their health and mental toughness I respect them and I encourage them to keep on inspiring. I’m talking about the average fitness icon who talks about how they are different and “how not everything is about looks and I want people to like me for me.” These are the same ones who 90% of their pictures are of them half naked showing off their body part they just had work done on so they can become “Instagram famous.”

We need to get back to focusing more on improving ourselves as people not just improving how we look. Average people judge people based off of their looks not their personality. They do this because they judge themselves off of how they look and not off of what kind of person they are. What you focus on grows. If you focus only on your appearance then your appearance improves and at the end of the day that is all the average person has. Be the person that your body is just a reflection of how beautiful your personality is. When people talk about you do they talk about how buff you are, how big your butt is? Or do they talk about how great of a person you are and how much you care about other people? Your body won’t last forever, but your personality can having a lasting effect on others. Average people judge based off of physical appearance. Successful people judged based off who you are as a person on the inside.
